Kyrkjebygdheia is known for being a snow-sure area with excellent skiing conditions.”

With us, you will find a wide selection of marked groomed trails during the winter season, stretching through small forests and across open moorlands, or up towards Skornetten at 883 meters above sea level. In addition to the 60 km of trails, Kyrkjebygdheia also offers endless possibilities for those who prefer to blaze their own trails. From the ski trails, there are plenty of opportunities to take a detour – up to a summit or to a sheltered sunny slope where you can enjoy the peace and quiet all to yourself.

You’ll also find many marked trails of varying lengths to experience the mountains in the summer season Kyrkjebygdheia has a terrain that invites fantastic hikes that can be adapted to all.

It is the Kyrkjebygdheia Løypelag (trail association) that develops and ensures good ski trails and marks and clears hiking trails in the summer. The trail association is also responsible for fundraising and entering into trail grooming agreements.

The trail association has both its own website and a Facebook page where you can get information about all the trails and stay updated on the conditions. You can also track the trail grooming machine on skisporet.no.

Ski center

Kyrkjebygdheia has a ski downhill center, which is located on the sunny slope facing the Stemtjønn cabin area. Here, there is a ski lift with a T-bar, covering approx. 980 meters, and the facility has a somewhat longer trail route. Here, families who prefer their ski trips downhill can spend many enjoyable hours. When the powder alarm goes off, you also have great opportunities for off-piste skiing.

The ski lift operates on weekends and holidays when snow conditions and weather permit.

If you wish to visit a larger facility, the ski resorts in Vrådal and Gautefall are excellent choices. These are located approx. 30-40 min. by car from Kyrkjebygdheia.

Fishing

If you’re interested in fishing, a trip into the terrain in Kyrkjebygdheia will offer many opportunities. From the large Holmvatn and Breilivatn to a hike into the hills to the south, east, and north, where you’ll find a lot of fishing waters.

The mountain lakes in Kyrkjebygdheia have plenty of trout, and fishing permits for fishing can be purchased on inatur.no. The lakes are managed by the Nordbygda & Kyrkjebygda Fishing Association.

When the ice is safe, you can bring your ice auger, maggots, and ice fishing gear and simply wait for the catch.

Remember that due to spawning, most waters are protected from 15.09 to 31.12 each year.

The nearby area

Nissedal is a true year-round destination! Lake Nisser is a large and beautiful lake with many excellent swimming opportunities, including both beaches and rocky shores. During the summer, the veteran boat M/F Fram operates in scheduled traffic with regular stops in Kyrkjebygda.

If you like summit tours, Nissedal has a long series of mountain peaks you can climb to the top of. Here, everyone will find a suitable hike, from an easy child-friendly walk to well-prepared climbing routes at Hægrefjell. This is one of Northern Europe’s best climbing areas and offers both excitement and challenges!

You can also use your mountain bike, and near Canvas Hotel in Nissedal, a trail network has been built, providing a wide range of options, including mountain biking, singletrack trails for both short and long rides. Also, visit the Giant’s potholes at Eikhom, which is the perfect bathing spot and a great experience for both adults and older children.

In Vrådal you will find a 9-hole golf course. The course is nestled in an idyllic setting and offers challenges with narrow fairways and water hazards on several holes.

Year-round, taking a walk around the center of Treungen is worthwhile. You can find sports, interior, and clothing stores, and visit a coffee bar as well. The Z-museum gives you a sense of the everyday life of a previous generation – here you will find, among other things, beautiful vintage cars, old telephones, and toys. In Treungen, you will also find tourist information, grocery stores, fuel sales, a café, and a building supply store that provides everything needed for the construction and maintenance of cabins and houses.

In Kyrkjebygda you will also find a grocery store. Here, you will find all the items you need for your daily shopping.
