About Kyrkjebygdheia
At the top of Nissedal, by the picturesque Nisser, you’ll find an enchanting mountain-area. You are welcome – to Kyrkjebygdheia
Little and big adventures
For some, the cabin dream is about restful pulse and little blinks of an eye, like enjoying a hot meal with the family after a day on the ski slopes, or the sound of a quiet fishing lake. For others, it’s about filling time with discoveries – about treading new paths and feeling adventurous. Whatever your cabin dream may be, there is a good chance you will find it here at Kyrkjebygdheia.
Kyrkjebygdheia is idyllically located in a sunny mountain area east of Nisser in Nissedal municipality. A place known for its snow-sure and beautiful surroundings. A perfect starting point for nature experiences, all year round.
In one with nature
The magic of Kyrkjebygdheia meets you even before you arrive. It meets you on the road in the old cultural landscape along Nisser and further on the way up from Kyrkjebygda. With the elongated pine trees and pines around. In the warm wind in summer and in the low, clear sun in winter. It meets you in the fantastic landscape around the cabins, where the building is one with nature.
Ski slopes at the cabin
Right outside the cabin door you will find beautiful, mile-long cross-country trails. The groomed tracks stretch a full 60 km through the unique mountain landscape and are equally suitable for children as well as experienced skiers. An active and experienced piste team and the piste drivers ensure that you can enjoy the ski season to the fullest. Explore a large selection of hiking trails among frozen mountain lakes, gaphukas and snow-covered forests.

If you prefer a trip to the slalom hill, you have the Kyrkjebygdheia ski center close by. A cozy little center for the whole family. In addition, you can experience the Gautefall and Vrådal ski centers, just 30 minutes away. The snow and sun make the heath a paradise for all winter activities.
Summer in the mountains
The area offers a lot of possibilities even in the summer – whether you’re looking for swimming water, fishing water, hiking experiences or tasty berrys.
If you like fishing, you will probably like Kyrkjebygdheia. Here you have the choice between large lakes and some of the most beautiful mountain lakes Norway has to offer. Winter and ice fishing is a popular hobby on the heath, and with good reason, the conditions here are perfect. But it is probably during the summer months that most people try the fishing hatch. Fish for aure in one of the countless fishing lakes or take a cool mountain bath in the heat of the sun. If you dream of sandy beaches, you are only a couple of minutes by car from Lake Nisser, which offers an idyllic and exciting bathing life. Here you can also enjoy experiencing Norway’s very last cable car ferry. The iconic boat annually transports more than 5,000 cars between Fjonesundet and Sundsodden.
Take the journey to new heights
With up to 800 meters above sea level, many of the cabin pitches give you a striking view of the beautiful mountain home, and it is no problem to get higher if you wish. Nissedal is known for its many summit tours. If you own a cabin here, you can choose between a number of family-friendly mountain tours to known and unknown hiking destinations. From untouched wilderness, gentle mountains and clear water into the heath to rock slides and hot tubs in “nature’s water park” at Jettegrytene. If you like working a little for the view, there are of course red runs to choose from on most of the mountain. Common to all the peaks is the majestic view you get of Telemark.
Climbing for young and old
Do you dream of climbing in Norwegian nature? Well, then this is the place for you. Nissedal and Hægefjell in particular are one of Scandinavia’s most sought-after climbing destinations. With plenty of routes to choose from, the area has something for everyone, from beginners to mountain-goats. On Hægefjell alone, you can choose between 60 routes, almost all of which are independent. Here you will find a good climbing environment and memorable climbing experiences for the whole family.
Ant’s gold
A molt trip is a fantastic experience, whether you’re looking for the peace of the forest or a memorable trip with the family. Not only do you collect tasty and healthy food, picking moles is an adventurous way to experience nature. Many may say that they have the best molta, but that is what we have. The altitude and the sunny conditions give both molta, blueberries and lingonberries a unique and fresh sweet taste.
